In this class, students will step into a world of knights, castles, and medieval adventures—carefully selected living books filled with epic battles, rich allegories, and timeless tales of courage, honor, and the struggle of good versus evil. They will encounter stories that reveal not only heroism and daring quests but also the contrasts between rich and poor, exploring the choices, challenges, and values that shape people’s lives. Through narration, students will retell and reflect on what they read, while lively Socratic-style discussions give them space to ask questions, share ideas, and uncover the deeper messages hidden in each story. Along the way, they’ll study literary devices, discovering how authors craft meaning, emotion, and a sense of wonder, and using IEW’s proven writing methods, students will create and share their own writing with clarity, structure, and confidence.

By the end of the class, students will not only have explored thrilling adventures and timeless stories—they will have fostered a love for reading, grown as thoughtful readers and writers, able to see the world through different perspectives, express their ideas with confidence, and carry the lessons of these classic tales into their own thinking, writing, and imagination.

This class is designed for students who are confident readers and can comfortably read a few chapters per week. It’s perfect for those who are ready to engage with rich stories, dive into meaningful discussion, and develop their writing skills in a structured, supportive environment.

Through engaging musical games and interactive activities, students will begin to understand the building blocks of music while growing in confidence as singers.

In this class, students will learn to:

• Follow a melody line in simple sheet music

• Sing in harmony with others

• Develop pitch matching and aural or listening skills

• Learn foundational music theory concepts through fun and memorable games

• Experience the joy of singing as a group

This choir is designed to be welcoming for both beginners and experienced young musicians. It is a wonderful class for students who are just beginning their musical journey, as well as students already taking private music lessons who want ensemble experience. There is truly no better place to learn sight singing, music reading skills, harmony, and cooperation than in a choir.

The class will conclude with a festive Christmas performance, giving students the opportunity to share the music they have learned with family and friends.

While the class may continue into a second semester, this is a one-semester commitment, making it a perfect opportunity to try choir without a full-year obligation.
