Q. When do classes meet?

A. Classes take place weekly on Thursdays.

Q. What do I need to do to enroll my child(ren)?

A. 1:Read all of these FAQs and their answers.

2: Fill out the google form at the bottom of this page

3: Contact each teacher to enroll in his or her class

4: Once you have registered for a class and paid the deposit, you will be directed to follow          the invitation to join our Band page for all further communication.

Q. Is there a registration fee?

A. No, we have decided not to charge a registration fee this year. Instead, each teacher has         added $10 to the price of their classes, and that will go toward paying to use the facility           and insurance.

Q. Is this a drop-off program?

A.No, this is not a drop-off program. We are calling this a “co-op”, not because parents help         teach the classes, but because one parent of each child will need to stay on campus at all         times. When your child is inside of a classroom, parents can visit with each other, outside or       in empty spaces in the building, or relax in their cars. However, when your child is outside         of a classroom, he or she needs to be supervised by you at all times. We would also               appreciate it if parents could keep an eye out for everyone while helping your kids keep the       church property clean and tidy.

Exceptions:  With special permission, we will offer a few exceptions to this policy. High           School students can be dropped off as long as there have not been any behavioral issues.         Working parents can arrange for a friend to bring their child(ren), as long as we are informed     that the friend will be responsible for your child(ren) at all times.

Q.  Do you offer the option to keep my child’s school records?

A.  No, we are here to support you in your homeschooling journey, but you are  your child’s           teacher, and you will supervise their records either on your own, with a PSP,  or with a               public charter school. However, if you are new to homeschooling and need some guidance       in this area, every teacher at Journey Ed has years of homeschooling experience under their       belt, and any of us would be happy to help guide you in this process.

Q. What does it mean that Journey Ed is based on Unit Studies and Charlotte Mason’s ideas in education?

A. Unit Studies: Our goal at Journey Ed is for all of our curriculum to be thoughtfully connected around the same core ideas. For the 2026–27 school year, K–8th graders will be studying from Ancient Rome through the Reformation, with science studies in anatomy thoughtfully woven into this time period. As much as possible, literature, projects, and classroom activities will align with these historical themes. For high school, students will continue this integrated approach through British literature, biology, Latin, and academic writing, all designed to complement and reinforce one another.

Charlotte Mason was a British educator in the 19th and 20th centuries, who developed a unique educational method, aiming to cultivate a love of learning and spiritual growth in children. She emphasized living books, spending time in nature, narration, and a broad curriculum, believing children should be exposed to a wide range of subjects, including art, literature, history, and science. She also believed in the importance of children forming relationships with God, others, and the world around them, while teaching that parents are the primary educators of their children and should be equipped with the knowledge and tools to do so effectively. Whenever possible, rather than using textbooks, teachers at Journey Ed will use literature that tells of  people living through the historical events studied.

Q. Why don’t you offer a formal writing class until 5th grade?

A. In the Charlotte Mason approach, writing begins with copy work, oral narration, and written     narration. (Narration is when children are encouraged to retell what they have read or               learned in their own words, fostering critical thinking and understanding). Five in a Row,           Hands on History, and Meet the Masters  are packed with copy work and narration, so we       have decided to move to paragraph and essay writing in our IEW (Institute for Excellence in       Writing) in 5-8th grades. However,  if you have a 4th grader, who is an advanced         writer, feel free to speak with our writing instructor, Josie Robles about this option.

Q. What weeks will you meet throughout the school year? Will there be breaks?

A.We are all homeschooling parents and believe in taking weeks off to rest or travel with your       children. We will take a week off for fall break, Thanksgiving break, and Easter Break. We.       will take off 4 weeks in December/January. Each of the 2 semesters will have 15 weeks of       classes. Once you have joined our Journey Ed Band Page, you will have access to our             official calendar.
