Hands on History

  • Apr 1
  • 2 min read

Mrs. Mackie and Mrs. Scotti are back with another exciting Hands on History class through literature and hands-on projects. This class takes a Charlotte Mason/Classical approach with living books and a handicraft project to take home each week, with some narration copywork, depending on each child’s age or ability. Claire and Rebekah teach World History in the classical style, 4 year rotation: Year 1 Creation to the Greeks (Ancients), Year 2 Rome to the Reformation (Medieval), Year 3 Explorers to 1850 (Early Modern), and Year 4 1850 to the Present (Modern). American History is interspersed throughout, when it occurs in the chronological timeline. Students can enter this rotation at any time. This time we will “travel” around the world, beginning with Ancient Rome and ending with the Reformation in Europe. Kids will learn about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, seeing God’s plan for redemption, happening in the perfect time in history! Then they will explore the launch of the Church, the exciting world of Vikings, kings, queens, castles, knights, scientists, artists, and much more (year two of the classical history rotation).

Registration in the class includes a literature list with a compilation of the best living books to read to your children, to enforce the historical concepts at home. The idea is that, rather than reading about dry dates, events, and wars in a textbook, historical events come alive, as kids read (or listen) about children and adults who lived through these times and learn what their everyday lives entailed.
