This Charlotte Mason-inspired course invites students on a journey through world history using carefully selected living books. Rather than following a predetermined reading list, each book is chosen for its ability to engage, inspire, and spark meaningful discussion.

While this class can be taken as a standalone course, it is designed to complement the World History and Academic Writing courses, creating a rich literary experience that deepens historical understanding.

Students will explore the historical context of each book and connect its themes to their own lives through:

  • Socratic discussions

  • Creative assignments

  • Reading aloud

  • Engaging peer conversations

The course will feature beloved classics such as Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis alongside modern page-turners like Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. The rest of the reading list will be carefully curated to ensure students encounter only the most compelling and life-giving literature. While many traditional A-G literature list suggestions will be substituted, all selections will be educationally equivalent and appropriate replacements.

Additionally, students will complete a monthly sample that can be submitted to their charter schools. Above all, the goal of this course is to cultivate a lifelong love of reading in partnership with parents, who remain their child’s primary teacher.

This course prepares high school students for college-level writing by developing their ability to engage critically with texts, construct well-supported arguments, and write with clarity and confidence. Students will learn to engage with texts critically, summarize key ideas, analyze arguments, and articulate their own perspectives with clarity and precision while integrating evidence effectively.

Students will complete a variety of writing assignments, including:

  • Persuasive essays – Developing logical, well-structured arguments

  • Literary analysis – Examining themes, symbolism, and authorial intent

  • Research-based argument papers – Gathering and incorporating credible sources

  • Personal reflections and response essays – Expressing ideas with depth and clarity

In addition to writing, the course includes focused instruction on grammar and mechanics to help students refine their skills.

Designed to complement our World History and World Literature curricula, this class encourages students to engage with historical themes and literary works through writing. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in academic writing and critical thinking, equipping them for success in future academic pursuits.

minutes of Math Lab, elementary students will receive support either individually

or in small groups. This time will be organized based on information gathered

through their Google Classroom.

At the end of these 45 minutes, parents can either take their elementary student
