Join Miss Jen for a Five in a Row Adventure!

Step into the pages of a story and watch learning come to life! In this engaging Five in a Row class, we use timeless picture books as a springboard for hands-on exploration in social studies, geography, language arts, math, science, and art. Each week, we dive into a beautifully written and illustrated story, just as the FIAR curriculum encourages, and extend the learning through creative, play-based activities.

Get ready for exciting science experiments, silly math games, outdoor scavenger hunts, and messy crafts you’d never try at home—all designed to spark curiosity and a love of learning. With Five in a Row (FIAR), books become more than just stories; they become an adventure waiting to unfold.

What to Expect:~ Literature-Based Learning – Classic picture books guide our lessons, fostering a deep love for stories while seamlessly integrating subjects.~ Exciting Science Experiments – Watch baking soda fizz, create crazy concoctions, and explore the wonders of the world around us!~ Silly Math Games – Numbers come alive through hands-on activities and playful problem-solving.~ Geography & Social Studies – Travel to new places, meet fascinating characters, and discover different cultures—all through books!~ Messy, Creative Crafts – Get your hands dirty (literally!) with art projects inspired by our weekly stories.~ Outdoor Exploration – Scavenger hunts, nature walks, and movement activities help us learn while we play.

Come read, create, explore, and experience the magic of learning through great books!

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

This year we will explore God’s creation through the lens of earth science. How do the forces on our planet shape the earth? How do these different forces interact? Building on their natural curiosity about our world, we will observe, discuss, read, build, question, and, together, learn all about God’s amazing creation.

After teaching Hands-on History to homeschoolers for the past five years, Claire and Rebekah are thrilled to bring this course to the high school level and reconnect with many of their former students.

Rather than relying on lectures and dry textbooks, this World History course will emphasize Socratic discussions, multimedia projects, and student-led presentations. Spanning from the creation of the world to modern times, students will explore major historical themes and wrestle with thought-provoking questions, such as:

  • After studying the history of Jews in ancient society, how does that apply to them being God’s chosen people today?

  • Did the Protestant Reformation bring much-needed changes, or did it cause unneeded division and suffering? Or both?

  • What people groups suffered extensively during World War II, who caused that suffering, and how should they have been held accountable?

Students will often conduct their own research at home and bring their findings to class for discussion. The goal is to foster lively, engaging conversations that encourage empathy,
